PRIVATE VOICE TO TEXT
Every time you use a cloud dictation service, your voice is recorded, uploaded, and processed on someone else's server. MumbleFlow does the opposite. Everything happens on your device. Your audio is never stored, never sent, never logged. There is literally no mechanism for your data to leave your machine.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU USE CLOUD VOICE-TO-TEXT
When you dictate using a cloud-based service, here's the typical flow: your microphone captures audio, the app compresses it, sends it over the internet to the provider's servers, the server processes it through a speech model, and sends the text back. That's the optimistic version.
In practice, many providers retain the audio. Google has acknowledged using voice data to improve its products. Amazon's Alexa team had human reviewers listening to recordings. Apple's Siri grading program was doing the same until it was exposed. These aren't edge cases. They're the business model: your data is a training resource.
Some services also collect contextual data beyond just audio. Wispr Flow, for example, captures screen context to improve transcription. That means not only your voice but what's on your screen is being sent to their servers. Even services with strong privacy policies are still third parties with access to your raw voice recordings.
MumbleFlow takes none of this. It has no server component, no analytics endpoint, no user accounts, and no telemetry. The app makes exactly one network request in its lifetime: downloading the Whisper model when you first install it. After that, it never contacts any server for any reason.
PRIVACY COMPARISON
| Aspect | MumbleFlow | Cloud Services |
|---|---|---|
| Audio storage | Never stored. Discarded after transcription | Often retained for model training or quality review |
| Network requests | Zero during use (model download on first run only) | Every transcription requires a network call |
| Telemetry | None. Zero analytics, zero tracking | Usage metrics, session data, sometimes screen context |
| Account required | No | Usually yes |
| Data processing location | Your device only | Data centers (US, EU, or elsewhere) |
| Third-party access | Impossible. Data never leaves the device | Depends on provider terms and partnerships |
| Compliance friendly | Yes (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC2 contexts) | Requires careful vendor evaluation |
WHO NEEDS PRIVATE VOICE TO TEXT
HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
Doctors, therapists, and healthcare workers dictate patient notes that contain protected health information (PHI). Under HIPAA, sending that data to a cloud service requires a Business Associate Agreement and careful compliance review. With MumbleFlow, the data never leaves the device, so there's no third party to evaluate.
LAWYERS AND LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
Attorney-client privilege means sensitive information should be handled with care. Dictating case notes, contracts, or privileged communications through a cloud service introduces a third party into the chain of custody. Local processing keeps privileged information where it belongs.
JOURNALISTS AND RESEARCHERS
Source protection matters. Journalists working with confidential sources, and researchers handling sensitive interview data, need tools that don't create additional data trails. MumbleFlow processes and discards audio immediately, leaving no trace.
ANYONE WHO VALUES THEIR PRIVACY
You don't need a regulated profession to care about privacy. Your voice is biometric data. The things you dictate might be personal thoughts, financial information, private messages, or creative work. None of that needs to travel through someone else's servers just so you can type without a keyboard.
MUMBLEFLOW'S PRIVACY MODEL
Audio processing: in-memory only
Your microphone audio is captured, held in memory, processed by whisper.cpp, and immediately discarded. It is never written to disk. There are no temp files, no audio logs, no recordings saved anywhere on your system.
Zero network activity
After the initial model download, MumbleFlow makes zero network requests. No analytics pings, no update checks, no license validation calls. You can verify this with any network monitoring tool.
No accounts or identifiers
MumbleFlow does not require an account, email address, or any form of identification. The purchase happens through Stripe, and MumbleFlow never sees your payment details. There are no user IDs, device fingerprints, or tracking identifiers.
No telemetry of any kind
No crash reports, no usage analytics, no feature tracking. MumbleFlow does not know how often you use it, what languages you dictate in, or how long your sessions are. That data simply does not exist.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I verify that MumbleFlow doesn't send data?
Use any network monitoring tool (like Little Snitch on macOS) to observe MumbleFlow's network activity. After the initial model download, you'll see zero outgoing connections. The app simply has no networking code for runtime operation.
Is MumbleFlow HIPAA compliant?
MumbleFlow processes all data locally and never transmits protected health information. Because no data leaves the device, many of the typical HIPAA concerns around third-party data processing don't apply. However, you should consult your compliance team for your specific use case.
What about the initial model download?
When you first run MumbleFlow, it downloads the Whisper speech model. This is the only network request the app ever makes. The download is a standard HTTPS file transfer with no personal data sent. After that, the app works fully offline.
Do you have a privacy policy?
Our privacy policy is simple: we collect nothing. No audio, no text, no usage data, no personal information. The app has no capability to collect or transmit user data because there is no server-side component.
