A local Wispr Flow alternative for Apple Silicon Mac

MumbleFlow is a native Swift app using AppKit and SwiftUI on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 26 or later. FluidAudio's Silero VAD detects speech, and the English Parakeet TDT 0.6B v2 Core ML model creates the transcript on your Mac. It does not use Whisper, whisper.cpp, Tauri, or Electron.

Optional polishing also stays on-device. Apple Foundation Models can remove fillers and false starts, resolve spoken corrections, add punctuation and paragraphs, and format lists. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, an optional local Qwen3 model can provide the fallback. You can disable polishing whenever a closer raw transcript is more appropriate.

1. Place the cursor where you want to write. MumbleFlow works through macOS Accessibility and a clipboard-paste fallback rather than requiring a special editor.
2. Hold Fn or double-tap it. Hold-and-release suits a quick reply; locked recording suits a paragraph or list. A configurable Option-Space fallback is available.
3. Speak naturally. Ramble, pause, correct yourself, or enumerate tasks. The live pill responds to microphone level so you can see that audio is reaching the app.
4. Let the local pipeline finish. MumbleFlow transcribes the complete utterance, skips semantic analysis for suitably short text, and uses the selected on-device polisher for longer writing.
5. Use the final text. The result is inserted at the focused cursor, copied to the clipboard, and kept in encrypted local history when history is enabled.

Oat is MumbleFlow's meeting workspace. Recording starts only when you choose Record Meeting. It captures the Mac's selected system or meeting-app audio through ScreenCaptureKit and your microphone as separate timestamped streams, without capturing video or placing a bot in the call.

Oat treats the microphone as the local user, diarizes remote audio, and lets you correct a speaker name when recognition is uncertain. During a meeting, “What did I miss?” summarizes the preceding five minutes. Afterward, Oat organizes topics, a timestamped timeline, decisions, action items, and open questions.

Generated meeting statements carry transcript citations, so selecting a source can return to the supporting timestamp and retained local audio. Meeting recordings are encrypted locally and expire after 30 days by default. Read the privacy guide for the full data boundary.

Create five spoken fixtures: a six-word reply, a paragraph with “actually” correcting a time, a three-item to-do list, a sentence with a person's name and acronym, and a noisy-room sample. Keep the microphone, speaking distance, and destination app consistent.

Score more than raw word accuracy. Measure the time to usable text, the number of edits left, whether meaning or numbers changed, insertion reliability, offline behavior, shortcut comfort, memory use, and what data leaves the device. For meetings, compare speaker correction, catch-up usefulness, citations, audio retention, and deletion controls.
